Two Pieces for String Orchestra is an arrangement of two works for cello octet written in 2002 and 2003.
The first movement, Sound Silences, explores the friendly partnership between sound and silence with the strings often playing passages with rich timbral colors including sul ponticello, col legno battuto, pizzicato and sul tasto. Sound Silences was composed for Marc Benyahia-Kouider, Professor of cello at the Conservatory of Music in Poitiers. This work is a companion piece to Timbral Timbres. The duration is 6'20.
The second movement, Timbral Timbres, is a companion piece to Sound Silences and shows the other side of the sonic world with a continuous 'G' natural sounding with an infinite array of tone colors. It was also written for Marc Benyahia-Kouider, French cellist and professor at the Poitiers Conservatory. The duration is 3'20.
The total duration is 9'40.
