Famously adapted to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," the melody of "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman" was composed sometime in the 18th century, and has even been used by Mozart in a piano composition with twelve variations. As the tune is likely to be recognized by audiences, it offers an opportunity for audience to find the theme in each of the five variations, while the members of the wind quintet can play expressively and show off their musicality.
