"Tu vuò fà l'americano" is a famous song written by Renato Carosone in 1956, in collaboration with Nicola "Nisa" Salerno. The song is sung in the Neapolitan dialect and combines elements of swing and jazz, becoming one of Carosone's best-known songs.
The lyrics of the song are a satire on young Italians who seek to adopt the American lifestyle, drinking whiskey and soda, dancing rock 'n roll, playing baseball and smoking Camel cigarettes, but who still depend on their parents for money.. The song was performed in the 1958 film "Totò, Peppino e le fanatiche" and was included in the soundtrack of the 1960 film "It Started in Naples", where it was sung by Sophia Loren and Paolo Bacilieri..
Over time, the song has been reinterpreted by numerous artists and has been used in various commercials and films. For example, in 2010, Australian duo Yolanda Be Cool and producer DCUP used a sample from this song in the international language "We No Speak Americano".
