Barbara Heller's Ton-Zeichen (Tone-Signs) are single pages of drawings integrated with traditionally-notated sequences of pitches. So melodies on these pages grow from the leaves of banana plants, cover stony acres, or form mussels that sing a song about the lost pearl. Barbara Heller and Nikolaus Heyduck used different sound and noice sources for these recordings: from violoncello, prepared piano, xylophone and glockenspiel to wine glasses and even stones and bricks. The electronic realizations on the present CD develop beautiful expansive, meditative sound landscapes.
