Ensemble music, among instrumental specialities, is that which has suffered the most during the rule of distancing caused by the pandemic. This little collection of ensemble compositions for guitar is a proof of the rebirth of the many groups which are again making music in our school classrooms, with renewed joy and enthusiasm. Here are ten pieces to show what I mean by ensemble music, at least in the early years of study. They are relatively simple, easy to read and written so as to be played after a couple of lessons, with melodies and rhythms alternating between the parts and titles which immediately evoke the content of the piece. Above all, the idea is to play together right from the first lessons with particular attention paid to listening to each other, to keeping to one’s role within the general context both during a Night Blues and enjoying a Reggae at breakfast!
There are no separate parts intentionally, first of all because they are pieces which are only one or two pages long and, furthermore, I feel it is useful for a pupil to have all the parts in front of him in order to follow the development of the piece better in every section.
All that remains for me is to wish students and colleagues well if they choose to use this new work of mine, hoping that it can provide extra encouragement to study this wonderful instrument of ours.
