Both instruments are in Noshvil tuning: ADG_*G. The upper 3 strings are ADG, and low string a full octave below the first G -- i.e. "doubling" it . That low *G gives a robust, full-throated sound, nicely balanced with the rest of the instrument. Holds true for my bass and my 2 cellos (4/4 tonewood cello and a 3/4 road cello) Widens the palette for improv in jamming with folk, bluegrass, contradance band.
Key is Gma, Either voice might be taken by a wind instrument having a low G.
