Composed by Danny Elfman. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Contemporary,Film/TV. Brass Band. 73 pages. RBMusic #3497227. Published by RBMusic (A0.752299).This arrangement is based on the opening sequence from the second season of The Simpsons (the first episode first aired in October 1990). The original theme was written in 1989 and took Danny Elfman only two days to compose. Matt Groening has said that he wanted ‘a big orchestrated, obnoxious, arrogant theme that promised you the best time of your life.’ During their first meeting, Groening gave Elfman a reference mixtape that included the theme from The Jetsons, selections from Nino Rota’s Juliet of Spirits and a Remington electric shaver jingle written by Frank Zappa. Elfman’s response was simply that he knew exactly what he was looking for.
Elfman came up with the theme on his way back from this meeting, went straight into his studio and recorded it onto cassette, sending it to the producers soon afterwards. Within a few hours, the producers responded simply say "It’s great!"
This arrangement is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. It is great for concerts and comes with alternative parts to make it easier for some ensembles. A recording of the theme can be found here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNzoJqzA6zM.
