Leroy Anderson was tijdens W.O. II kapitein bij het U.S. Army Intelligence Corps en bleef na de oorlog nog een tijdje in dienst van het Ministerie van Defensie in Washington. Tijdens deze jaren componeerde hij o.a. The Syncopated Clock; hij schreef dit werk in twee dagen tijd op het ministerie. Het werd een succes dankzij het humoristische karakter van de naabootsinf van een – soms grillig – tikkende klok. Het stuk werd uitgebracht op een 78 toerenplaat en later op Andersons eerste elpee in november 1950. In 1946 werd het werk als herkenningsmelodie voor een middernachtuitzending op de CBS radio gebruikt, wat voldoende was om enorme populariteit te winnen.

During the Second World War, Leroy Anderson was a captain with the American Intelligence Service. After the war he continued to work for the Defence Department in Washington for some years. At that time he composed The Syncopated Clock in two days' time at his Washington office. It was an immediate succes because of the humoristic imitation of the sometimes capricious, ticking or the clock. The work was immediately recorded on a 78 Disc and in November 1950 it was put on the first Anderson music long-playing record. It became extremely popular when it was used as the signature tune of a popular CBS midnight broadcast in 1946.

Durant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, Leroy Anderson est capitaine au service d'espionnage américain et après la guerre i ltravaille encore quelques années au Ministère de la Guerre à Washington. Durant ces années il compose e.a. L'Horloge Syncopée: il écrit cette pièce en deux jours dans son bureau au ministère. Grâce à l'imitation humoristique du tic-tac, parfois capricieux, de l'horloge le succès est immédiat. D'emblée le morceau est enregistré sur disque 78 tours et puis en november 1950 sur le premier 33 tours consacré aux oeuvres d'Anderson. En 1946 ce morceau est utilisé comme indicatif sonore d'une émission de minuit à la chaîne de radio CBS, ce qui lui vaut rapidement popularité énorme.

Während des zweiten Weltkriegs arbeitete Leroy Anderson beim Spionagedienst (U.S. Army Intelligence Corps). Nach dem Krieg arbeitete er noch verschiedene Jahre beim Verteidigungs-ministerium Washington. Dort schrieb er unter anderen The Syncopated Clock; dieses Stück komponierte er in zwei Tagen im Verteidigungsamt. Es war unmittelbar sehr erfolgreich dank des humoristischen Charakters der Nachahmung einer – oft grillig – tickenden Uhr. Das Werk wurde unmittelbar auf einer 78 Touren Schallplatte und im November 1950 auch auf der Anderson LP Aufgenommen. Als dieses Stück 1946 als Erkennungsmelodie eines Mitternachtrundfunkprogramms des CBS Radios verwendet wurde, kannte die Popularität dieses Werkes keine Grenze mehr.
