"Barcarolle" is a term used for the sea shanties sung by gondoliers in Venice and other waterfront cities. These songs reflect the gentle rocking rhythm of gondolas on calm waters and evoke the romantic atmosphere of life along the canals.

Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875 as the sixth piece in his piano cycle The Seasons, "June: Barcarolle" was originally written for solo piano.
