Commissioned by the West Ranch High School Jazz Ensemble, Bob Babko, director. How's your drummer? Really good, you say? This might be the chart for you! Its got some great solo space for the drummer, plus tons of juicy ensemble figures for him/her to kick. The title is an homage to the man who, in many cases, does a great deal to support your schools music program (so maybe you should buy this chart and pay your respects &hmm?), but whatever your motivation, the band has plenty to dig into with this fast swing chart. There is a basic vamp that recurs throughout the chart, and its chromatic nature is reflected all over the place in the main saxophone melody, in transitional phrases, in some of the harmonic movement. Bla, bla, it's so boring to use words to describe music! You gotta hear it to know it, right? But if you want a burning drum feature that has a challenging sax soli, powerful and excited ensemble sections and plenty of solo space for any of your best soloists, this chart will provide a great set closer with the bonus of being able to suck up a little to your high school principal.
