The Plane is an original SATB a cappella composition by WiIlliam Masloske, written for Acappellago's March 2019 concerts.
The Plane, explores our love-hate relationship with commercial aviation. Says the composer, "Only in recent history has mankind been so fortunate as to have at its disposal a vehicle capable of traveling such great distances in a short period of time. All corners of the earth are now accessible to the common man. Yet, the voyage on these ‘flying machines’ is rarely the highlight of any trip." The use of irregular rhythms to convey the anxiety that so often underlies every aspect of air travel: the fear of missing the flight, the rush to the gate, the momentary calm after take-off that’s quickly interrupted by turbulence, and finally the vain search at the baggage claim.
