By George Shearing. By Hoagy Carmichael and Ned Washington. Arranged by Claire Summerbell. This edition: audio, pdf. 20th Century, Broadway, Instructional, Jazz, Musical/Show, Standards. 10 pages. Claire Summerbell #1209851. Published by Claire Summerbell (A0.1642413).
Written in 1937, 'The Nearness Of You' by Hoagy Carmichael is considered one of the great Jazz standards. Fun fact: The song was originally written for a film that never got made called 'Romance In The Rough.' Many singers have made this song famous; from Ella Fitzgerald to Norah Jones. In this clarinet quartet arrangement, remember to let the melody shine through and keep all accompanying parts soft.
Claire Summerbell is a London-based clarinetist, educator, composer and arranger. She specialises in writing intermediate jazz clarinet duets through her website Clarisheets which can be found here: http://clarisheets.com. Her work sells globally.
