Composed by John Barry. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,Instructional. Individual part. 5 pages. Richard Hirsch #717088. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1115278).
John Barry’s beautiful John Dunbar Theme from the movie Dances with Wolves arranged for acoustic guitar. The arrangement consists basically of broken E major, A major, and B major chords played in arpeggios with the melody woven into the arpeggios. The piece is an excellent introduction to the full fretboard, up to the twelfth fret, as the same chords and melody are played in varying inversions at different positions on the fretboard. Chord diagrams for the left-hand are provided as a guide to the different inversions of the chords. The right-hand fingerings consist basically of thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers played in arpeggios that feel comfortable and fit the flow of the melody woven into the broken chords. The harmonics in the piece are also a good introduction to the natural harmonics at the fifth, seventh, ninth, and twelfth frets. I would recommend the piece to advanced beginners or intermediate students of fingerstyle or classical acoustic guitar. When playing and performing the piece try to capture the feeling of endless space one gets in the country of the big sky.
