The Ghost of Tom is from England and has a creepy story. It's from a children's rhyme from the Dark Ages when a man named Tom was hung for murdering children and the villagers left his body hanging in the tree refusing to bury him so that his soul would never rest in peace. The eventual hanging bones inspired the local children's chant, which over the centuries turned to song. There is no verification for this story but it does present a vivid backdrop to the song. In the US the song has become very popular as a round or canon and is often sung by school choirs at Halloween time.
