Commissioned by the University of Alabama, this work was composed in memory of Frank Ozzello, a World War II veteran and father of Kennet Ozzello, the current Director of the Alabama Wind Ensemble. Nicola Ferro imagined this man who lived tragic and intense moments during the Second World War. The composition begins with a solo trumpet that represents a sort of ode to the fatherland. It then develops into a solemn and majestic orchestral work, which portrays the importance of the soldiers' bond to their family and their will to sacrifice as much as their lives to honor their country.
