Released on November 1, 1958, the song features the high-pitched voices of the animated characters Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, which Bagdasarian achieved by manipulating tape speeds during recording. This innovative technique allowed him to harmonize with himself while portraying all three chipmunks and himself as their manager
