This is a seven-movement work for brass quintet. I set out to write a modern version of the Baroque orchestral suites for brass quintet. I kept the French Overture format (two sections - one stately followed by one highly contrapuntal in a quick 6/8 tempo), followed by a series of dances - those found in modern ballrooms rather than ones like the Courante, etc.). It's over twenty minutes long in its entirety, but the Overture plus three or more of the dances, in any order, can constitute a performance of "the suite." Any of the dances can be used as single pieces in concert or recital as well, and are available separately. The various movements are all different enough in style and character to make the whole piece entertaining in concert.
