Die vorliegenden Komposition entstammt der berühmten Sammlung von Kompositionen des 116. Psalmes "Angst der Hellen und Frieden der Seelen", die der fürstliche "Amptschösser" in Jena und Burgau, Burckhard Grossmann, im Jahr 1623 bei 16 verschiedenen Komponisten in Auftrag gab und veröffentlichte. Neben Schein enthielt sie auch Kompositionen von Michael Praetorius und Heinrich Schütz.
