"Metro" is the fifth and final movement of "A Texas Symphony"- This piece takes the listener on a current day musical road trip, from Houston to Dallas to Austin.  The journey begins with a travel theme, a variation of which is also then played between each city.  The beginning of the travel theme is identified by a snare and timpani rhythm. Houston is the first city of the road trip an the music represents oil wells pumping – a constant timpani beat and triangle is played throughout the Houston music to represent the rhythm of the active oil wells pumping. The travel theme comes back with a key change as the music takes the listener to Dallas, where three ideas are represented; art and glamour, driving on freeway loops around Dallas, and exhilarating night life. The music is upbeat and changes keys several times.  The travel theme returns in a different key while traveling to Austin, which is represented by a lyrical Texas waltz, a familiar Texas folk song,  and a fiddle theme played in a more classical style.  The finale is a blending of themes from the three cities and the travel theme.
