Great Tangos for solo double bass. Tango, op. 102 (2015) is an excerpt from Magidenko's children's opera [The Stolen Letter]. The story is set in the fairytale land of the letters. Fritzi and Franziskus, two bright first-formers, are learning the alphabet. The two friends don't like the last letter Z - during the dance of the alphabet, the Z trips and messes up the whole parade. In Lettertown they encounter the destructive Scrawl and the Ink Blots, from whom they have to protect the alphabet. Scrawl and the Blots sing and dance a tango. The letter Z dances with them. Wellen-Tango [Wave Tango], op. 90e (2015): The waves wash up all kinds of music on the seashore - sounds and melodies from all over the world, including the tango from Argentina.
Spagnolo, op. 21 (1983, 2015) is a piece written in Spanish style with a three-part structure. It is rather dark and tragic in character, with a bright central section.
