“Tango Trentino” was originally composed for a comedy themed around emigration, inspired by the period when many inhabitants of Trentino emigrated to Argentina in search of a better life. Although the theatrical play was never completed, the song was preserved and later adapted for various musical ensembles.
The lyrics are written in a playful mix of Spanish and the Trentino dialect, evoking a nostalgic connection to places like Roncegno, Valsugana, and Castel Toblino. They express the homesickness of emigrants and highlight the contrasts between life in Trentino and in Argentina.
“Tango Trentino” has been arranged in multiple formats, including:
Voice with accordion or piano
Male choir (TTBB)
Mixed choir (SATB)
String quartet
String quintet.
