These duos were mainly conceived with music school students in mind, but advanced players will also enjoy them. Looking over these little pieces, it is clear that the principal goal here is not a systematic training in two-part parallel rhythmic sequences but rather that the student or the second player become independent in the playing of each part. In other words, each player must not let himself be distracted by the other part. Polyphonic variety such as found, for example, in big band music is occasionally found in these duos, which of course must be played in swing (triplet) rhythm. It is advantageous to switch parts. The given tempos are approximate. These short pieces work well even at faster or slower tempos.
