It is in the spirit of his monumental achievement that this symphony, titled "ENIGMA," was composed. "ENIGMA" is more than a tribute; it is a musical reflection of the complex and methodical brilliance that characterized Turing's work. The structure of the piece mirrors the intricate calculus of the machine he devised to decrypt the seemingly impenetrable code of the Enigma machine. Just as Turing’s machine worked tirelessly through thousands of permutations, each movement of this symphony weaves through layers of melody and harmony, unraveling a musical cipher with each passing phrase. The first movement published last week begins with a sense of mystery and tension, much like the daunting task faced by Turing and his team. The music there will alternate between soaring crescendos and somber, introspective passages, capturing the duality of Turing's legacy: a hero whose work was pivotal to the modern world, but whose life was marred by the prejudices of his time. "ENIGMA" invites us to contemplate not just the brilliance of Alan Turing’s mind, but also the profound impact of his work on our world today.
