The work, written in 1983 is in 5 movements with a prelude and postlude framing the work, a central slow movement featuring the soprano saxophone and percussion and then 2 scherzos, one on each side of the central, 3rd movement. Thus an arch form of ABCBA. The 2 scherzos share the same material but in the 1st scherzo, this is done in a horizontal manner and in the 2nd scherzo the material is treated vertically. The 3rd and central movement is a Lament featuring a solo soprano saxophone and solo percussionist who dialogue between themselves and with the orchestra. The excerpt includes score pages from each of the five movements: I:1-6, II:13-21, III:86-91, IV:120-127 and V:158-164. The duration is 24 minutes and the score is in a very readable manuscript.
