Soloists: Tenor Sax, Soprano Sax, Drums.Sumo Mix is a 21st century hard bop romp into contemporary writing styles as exemplified by my favorite East coast composers such as Maria Schneider, James Argue, Jim McNeely, Mike Holober and John Hollenbeck (to name just a few). It is a joyous mix of open-ended motivic melodies accompanied with rhythmic/melodic ostinato. It goes into a half-time burlesque treatment alluding to a well-known standard before proceeding to an extended drum solo in tempo 1. A very cool chart for your extended full jazz ensemble using 10 brass. Tuba is optional for bass trombone 5.
