Composed by Marin Marais. Arranged by Elizabeth Thompson. Baroque,Classical. Score. 34 pages. Elizabeth Thompson #6323171. Published by Elizabeth Thompson (A0.1016693).
The Suite for 2 Cellos consists of six dance movements excerpted from Marin Marais' Pieces de viole, Livre III (Paris, France 1711). Originally for viola da gamba, this suite is transcribed into bass and tenor clefs so as to be easily read by the modern cellist. All of the movements are appealing with or without ornamentation, which makes the Suite a flexible educational tool for players at many levels.
This edition includes a reprint of the original manuscript (also available online from the Bibliotheque nationale de France). This edition also includes the figured bass part transcribed and printed in modern typeset.
Marais' charming suite may be successfully performed by 2 cellos (intermediate and advanced intermediate), solo cello and keyboard (player must read figured bass), or solo cello with basso continuo team.
