Composed by Simon Watkins. Concert,Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Simon Watkins #5732609. Published by Simon Watkins (A0.1019458).
A choral piece for SATB choir with piano accompaniment, this setting of John Clare's poem from 'The Rural Muse' captures the drama of being caught in the rain on a country walk. The music is intentionally poignant, reflecting Clare's feeling of sadness at the loss of character and beauty in the progressive changes wrought by industrialisation to the 19th century landscape; a sense that seems all the more keenly felt now in the face of climate change, industrial agriculture and destructive infrastructure development.
Length approx. 4 1/2 minutes, medium difficulty in the vocal parts; more advanced in the accompaniment.
Suitable for a general choral performance, chamber choir or school event.
