The music is intentionally poignant, reflecting Clare's feeling of sadness at the loss of character and beauty in the progressive changes wrought by industrialisation to the 19th century landscape; a sense that seems all the more keenly felt now in the face of climate change, industrial agriculture and destructive infrastructure development.
Length approx. 4 1/2 minutes, medium difficulty in the vocal parts; more advanced in the accompaniment.
Suitable for a general choral performance, chamber choir or school event.
