With this quartet, Feld's output in chamber music has reached its peak. The composition is monothematic and in all four movements, the lyrical character built on the contrasting sections of dramatic tension and virtuoso stylisation is predominant. The quartet was written in 1993 for Prazak Quartet which premiered the piece in USA and shortly afterwards in Prague. In 1996, the composition appeared only as a score, so this edition also provides the individual instrumental parts.
