Star of the Sea is inspired by authentic texts and song forms from Persia, Croatia, 13th century Galicia and the musical legacy of the Spanish Jews: elements that the duo Stellamara (consisting of singer Sonja Drakulich and instrumentalist Jeffrey Stott) have refined into a total of 9 consistently delightful compositions, which are essentially carried by vocals, percussion and acoustic string instruments. Songs such as "Maris", "Kereshmi" or the unruly "Oj Jabuko" need not shy away from comparison with works by established greats of the mystically lyrically oriented pop idiom. "Star of the Sea" is a - not for a debut work - remarkable production, full of dreamlike, ghostly harmonies, interwoven with intricate melodies, full of longing to melancholy and all-round beguiling. An exceptional phenomenon that stands out pleasantly from the crowd. Music whose roots reach back several centuries through time and whose youngest flowers nevertheless shine in the most beautiful colors.
