Carter was a 19th Century teacher, writer, evangelist, as well as hymnist. He was from Pennsylvania. Section A and C are the verse. Section B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs at the end of section B with the help of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added beginning at section C. This piece should be played with confindence and joy.
