Stand in the Light was written as an anthem of hope. It is a simple verse/chorus song that introduces two-part singing. The verse and chorus work independently, but once learned can be sung as a round. The piano accompaniment includes a chord sheet.
This work was inspired by the need for an anthem with social justice themes that could be easy to learn and compelling for children’s or community choirs: something fun to sing that would provide a strong affirmation of a united community. The song is an invitation to stand in the promise of all that defines the goodness of humanity: love, kindness, truth, justice, and peace. It is a call to gratefully celebrate each day as an opportunity to bring this message of light to our world. The language is neither religious nor political. Composed by an award-winning female composer, Stand in the Light was selected as one of the international winners of the 50th Anniversary Hong Kong Children’s Choir composition contest.
