I have never heard of the Danish composer Vagn Holmboe, but I accidentally discovered that he wrote 21 string quartets. So, OK, since I am now working on my own 21st string quartet, I thought I would check him out. It turns out that he is very good and has an individual voice of his own. And his name Holmboe rhymes with my middle name. LOL!!!
There are only three movements in Holmboe's First String Quartet, but there are at least two different musical ideas in each. So, I took these six motivic ideas and transformed them into the first six moments of my work. The last movement "funèbre" is in memoriam and a tribute to Vagn Holmboe, 1909-1996.

3. "Sereno" ... Lento, Adagio
4. Presto agitato, TRIO
5. Introduzione, Largo trasognamente
6. Allegro deciso, TRIO
