The Cello Concerto “Spring of Hometown” can be said to be a variational concerto in a word. It is a concerto composed with the theme of the melody of “Nanpa Hong”, who played an important role in spreading Western music in Korea. The nursery rhyme “Spring of Hometown” was composed in 1929 and is a familiar melody to all Koreans, regardless of age or gender. The content of the poem is about the beautiful and nostalgic nostalgia of the village where he lived as a child. Following a lively ensemble in 4/4 time, a solo cello that seems to read a poem plays the theme, followed by the first variation composed of a splendid dispersion chord. Variations 2 and 3 are played by soloists and ensembles, alternating between “jajinmori” and “gutgeori,” which are unique rhythm of Korea. In Variation 4, the slowly expanded theme is played by the ensemble with a con soldino (played using a muted instrument), and the solo cello decorates the theme of the ensemble with notes in up and down rows. Then, a cadenza, a final variation of a majestic personality, and a short coda decorate the end. The original music is composed for violin and string ensemble, but this music is translated into cello and string ensemble. Although Italian is traditionally used for musical symbols and facial expressions written in sheet music worldwide, in this concerto, words appropriate to the musical situation are also written on the score so that the performer can feel the emotions of his hometown in Korea more specifically. tried to do it. Attached music file is recorded by Violin and Piano. It's just for a reference.
