Composed by Antonio Ugena. Arranged by OVIDIO GIMENEZ. Classical. Score and part. 26 pages. Smartbassoon #6366995. Published by Smartbassoon (A0.1001329).
The composer Antonio Ugena was appointed titular Chapelmaster of the Royal Chapel, after
Corselli's death in 1778, until 1805. Other works are known about him for opposition.
The Bassoon Sonata is a work composed for the bassoon opposition to the Royal Chapel in
1802. On the cover is "Piece of examination pa. the opposition of Bassoon / On May 4, 1802./
Disposed by D. Antonio Ugéna ".
The original manuscript is composed to be played with unencrypted bassoon and bass
accompaniment. The editor has chosen the option of carrying out a harmonized
accompaniment to facilitate its interpretation and dissemination in professional and academic
fields. In this way it can be interpreted as a duet (with bassoon or cello accompaniment) or as
a two-movement sonata (with piano or harpsichord accompaniment).
It presents a moderate technical difficulty and shows a musical and aesthetic interest similar to
the European classicism of its time.
