By David M Bowen. Composed by William Croft. Arranged by David M Bowen. This edition: audio, pdf. Baroque, Classical, Early Music. 7 pages. David M Bowen Music Productions, LLC #1174919. Published by David M Bowen Music Productions, LLC (A0.1604708).
From an arrangement for two alto recorders, this lovely duet was transcribed down a major 4th. This transcription and rearrangement of the secundo part were scored for several reasons: provide an overall lower timbre, separate the voices and increase the low range of the second voice. The allegro movements are fun and energetic. All three movements are delightfully composed of small motifs that travel through a series of imitations. With an intermediate difficult level and the baroque style, the music lends itself to a plethora of embellishments and style interpretations. The adagio is calming and tuneful, and is the perfect movement to finish a duet session. Two clarinets can play the sonata as written, or it can be transposed to concert pitch.
