C. P. E. Bach's Trio Sonata, composed in Potsdam in 1749 and published in 1751, attracted the keen attention of his contemporaries. The sonata is a musical conversation between two characters - the optimistic Sanguineus and the plaintive Melancholicus. Their intense dialog extends over the first two movements until they finally make peace and continue in harmonious unity in the third movement.
