The Sonata for Marimba and Piano is an 11- minute piece packed into a single movement comprised of a 3-part structure reflecting the composer’s interest in neo-Classicism. The first part is in a bright tempo containing 2 themes—one fast and one slow. This part segues into a 2nd section that functions as a slow, reflective and brooding transition. A rare but slight pause introduces a faster, buoyant 3rd section in 6/8 featuring a blazing marimba cadenza which transitions into a rousing conclusion.
