When the arranger, Daniel Kucharik, attended high school, a fellow member of the school's jazz band expressed interest in playing "Snow Miser" and "Heat Miser" from the Rankin/Bass 1974 Christmas stop motion animated television special, The Year Without a Santa Claus. Daniel noticed that there were no arrangements of the piece for a large jazz ensemble in print, so he took it upon himself to arrange one. Although originally only intended for a one-time performance, the audience feedback was so well-received that it has been performed annually since.
Daniel Kucharik graduated from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 2023 and is an elementary general music teacher in Delaware. He enjoys doing wildlife photography and arranging music for various types of ensembles in his free time.
