Snapshots for Snare Drum is a set of four pieces that display unique moods and flavors. The first piece of the collection, Funk 57, references 1970s fusion-funk with its prominent backbeats and syncopated rhythms. Fandango is modeled after the Spanish dance by the same name, using the snare drum to echo the sound of castanets and hand-clapping. Reverie, a slow and expressive piece, captures spacious, dreamlike tranquility which at times becomes interrupted by sudden accented bursts. The final piece, Eclat, is a boisterous showpiece that explores more complex and syncopated rhythms.
