By Billie Eilish. By Billie Eilish O'Connell; Finneas O'Connell. Arranged by Nicola Guidotti. This edition: audio, pdf, streaming. 21st Century, Blues, Classical, Contemporary, Pop. Individual part. 5 pages. Nicola Guidotti #1209552. Published by Nicola Guidotti (A0.1645210).
In my opinion-and according to most interpretative perspectives found online-this song can be read intimately, as a deep reflection of Billie's insecurities: about growing up, and about how heavily others' opinion can weigh on our inner world.
I chose to reinterpret the guitar (the main foundation of the accompaniment, except for the final part-the string quartet) as a wave-like motion inspired by the left hands found in certain piano works from the late 19th to early 20th century.
This structure remains consistent throughout the reworking of verses 1 and 2, with the exceptionof the line "And I still cry...", where the wave motion evolves and is mirrored in the right hand as well, through an ascending and descending movement within the chord progression F#min7, Bmin7, E7.
