Like a fine crystal ornament, the delicate opening expresses the precious meaning of the song. Gradually, the music grows in strength to a full and rich proclamation of joy. Thrilling chimes lift the spirit even higher. In the last bars the music melts away once again, befitting the gentleness of the gift and the moment. This is a delightful contrast piece for the holiday concert that allows the musicians to be truly expressive.

Sketches on a French Carol is gebaseerd op het Franse kerstlied Il Est Né (’t Is geboren, het godd’lijk kind). De delicate opening drukt de kostbare boodschap van het lied uit. Geleidelijk wordt de muziek krachtiger,rijker en vreugdevoller totdat ze in de laatste maten weer tot rust komt, passend bij de dankbaarheid voor de geboorte van het Kerstkind. Dit is een aantrekkelijk werk vol contrasten waarin uw muzikanten heel expressief kunnenspelen.

Wie ein feines Kristallornament zeichnet die zarte Eröffnung die Stimmung und Botschaft des französischen Weihnachtsliedes vor.
