"In my choral works, I try to combine the mode of expression from days gone by with the music I wish to create today, often landing in the tonality of music stemming from the turn of the last century by composers such as August Söderman, Emil Sjögren and Gabriel Fauré – to name but a few who have inspired me. My intention is also to provide choirs access to a somewhat different expression within the framework of a fairly traditional composition.
I elected to use the original Latin texts for my compositions, which offer some challenges when it comes to interpretation and declamation. But the Latin also creates a bridge between the old and the new, as it has been used for centuries by church music composers." – Magnus Kilvén.
