A sonata in C minor for string orchestra or quintet of two violin parts, viola, cello and double bass. Inspired by baroque forms, it is intended as a relatively simple study with a few more challenging passages. The first movement is a fugue on a robust subject, played at an andante pace. This is followed by a simple chorale-like Lento movement. Finally, a chaconne played Presto - or as near to it as possible! The total duration is around 4 1/2 minutes. This is the parts file. Note that there is one optional low C for double basses with extended range.
