I made this arrangement for SATB or children's choir very simple. Still it introduces orchestral timbres in dialogue with the voice, as different verses are played in different orchestral combinations. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2 2.0.0.0 Organ is ad lib. Strings For children's choir just do the soprano and alto parts. Another feature of this version is that the choir can perform the carol in 4 (or less) different languages: English, French, German and Russian verses are all printed in the included choral score. Of course, one can also sing more verses in one language.
