By The Clash. By Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. Arranged by Bob Good. Punk,Rock. Score and parts. 17 pages. Surrey Dance Music #6574125. Published by Surrey Dance Music (A0.951245).

A parody of The Clash’s "Should I Stay Or Should I Go", shortened, and with the lyrics changed to "Should I Slay Or Let Them Go".

Why? Intended for use in pantomime, where the baddie, or more likely the baddie’s henchman, is dispatched to kill the goodies (for example the Babes In The Wood) and is having moment of doubt. Seeking the audience’s help to decide what to do (should they slay or let them go) he or she has a short moment of song.

I’ve kept it to under a minute, partly because it’s intended for pantomime and because of the typical attention span of the age of a typical pantomime audience member, I always keep pantomime songs short, but also because I reckon the joke is over and done with after the first few bars.

I’ve arranged it with trumpet and two reeds because that’s what we typically have in our pantomimes, but these are optional (as is either the keyboard or guitar).
