By Tom Rule. By Tom Rule. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 14 pages. Published by MaconMacMusicGuy (A0.495557).A challenging yet accessible piano piece that is interesting and very rhythmic. Don’t let all of the meters scare you - it is easier to figure out than you’d think at first glance! The first movement - No Toe Tapping - opens with a little motive, then plays around with it in an effort to frustrate anyone tapping their toes in the audience. [Yes, that’s a tip ‘o the hat to Dave Brubeck’s “Unsquare Dance”]. No. 2: Surprisingly Calm - has some interesting and thick sounds. Don’t be afraid to take it slow and easy and make it as rubato as you like. The third movement - Over-Caffeinated - starts with a tri-tone, just because it sounds interesting and a bit jarring. The Right and Left hands argue for quite a while. It all ends in a major blowout, complete with references to the first two movements, and then the final surprisingly pleasant C major chord is followed by the right hand, which JUST has to get in the last word.
