By Ed Sheeran. By Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac. Arranged by Krista Broadway Swider. This edition: audio, pdf, streaming. Pop. 8 pages. Krista Swider #1141474. Published by Krista Swider (A0.1569420).
One of my favorite Ed Sheeran songs - a pop song with dancehall influence - "The Shape of You" has a simple, repetitive motive overlaid with rhythmically elaborate melodies. This arrangement starts as the original track does, with simply the melody and bass line (the short electronic pulses represented by pizzicato in the opening). The violin begins the melody and it trades off between the parts continuously with the motive sustained in one instrument while the other plays the melody. There are some homorhythmic measures with tight harmonies and a grand pause that reflect the original track. Parts are bowed and markings added to clarify when a player has the melody. Measures are numbered and rehearsal letters provided for ease of sightreading and performing at gigs.
