(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvan_Kalib) I composed the simple tune for a mandolin student that I had. I was explaining what modes are and the different minor scales and the difference between Western scales and Semitic scales, and the harmonies that support them, then I came to the conclusion, "I'll write something out". This work entales both minor scales both used melodically, a transposed Aeolian mode, both modal and tonal harmonies, including a V7-9, and it finishes off with Picardy third. ('chord" of nature https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chord_of_nature) It is a theme and variation tryptych form and geared toward student development. It begins with a simple melodic line then builds and builds. This a lot music theory packed into less 4 minutes of performance time. Because the Semitic flavor, I found it befitting to dedicate to my theory teacher while I attended Eastern Michigan University.
