Auf kompositorischem Gebiet begegnet uns Krebs als ein die kontrapunktischen Regeln perfekt beherrschender Kunstler. Neben der perfekten Nachahmung seines Lehrmeisters Bach hatte sich Krebs auch den neuen galanten und empfindsamen Tendenzen seiner Zeit zugewandt. Er zeigte sich damit sehr aufgeschlossen gegenuber den zu seiner Zeit aufkommenden neuen musikalischen Stromungen, die in seinen Kompositionen eine besondere Rolle spielen.
