The Seikilos epitaph is an Ancient Greek song. Written more than 2000 years ago, it is the oldest surviving complete musical composition, including lyrics and musical notation, from anywhere in the world. Its melody has an exotic modal flavor.
This one octave melody was transposed to fit comfortably the recorder’s range.
